Cast Polyamide 6 Plastic – PA6G
Cast Polyamide 6, often referred to as PA6G, is a synthetic plastic material widely used in various industrial and technical applications. This plastic is a form of polyamide, a family of polymers known for their strength and versatility. PA6G is distinguished by its unique properties, made possible by its specific manufacturing process, cast molding.
Manufacturing Process
Unlike extruded polyamides, PA6G is manufactured using a cast molding process. This method involves melting the polyamide and pouring it into molds to obtain large parts with complex shapes. This process gives PA6G a crystalline structure that provides improved mechanical characteristics compared to extruded polyamides.
Properties of PA6G
- Mechanical Strength: PA6G has excellent mechanical strength, making it suitable for applications requiring materials with high wear and impact resistance. Its tensile strength is particularly noteworthy.
- Dimensional Stability: Thanks to its manufacturing process, PA6G has good dimensional stability, making it a preferred choice for precision parts.
- Heat Resistance: This plastic offers good heat resistance, although less than some other polyamides. It can withstand high temperatures without deforming or losing its mechanical properties.
- Impact and Wear Resistance: PA6G is known for its increased resistance to wear and impact, making it ideal for applications involving harsh working conditions.
- Low Friction and Self-Lubricating: Its low friction and self-lubricating properties reduce the need for additional lubrication in mechanical applications, which can lower maintenance costs.
- Moisture Absorption: PA6G tends to absorb moisture, which can affect its mechanical and dimensional properties. However, in many applications, this characteristic is managed so that it does not adversely affect the material’s performance.
